Your current training can only take you so far.
If you want to get to the Next Level you need to make sure you have the proper foundation to support your goals.
If you're asking your body to do more, to work harder, you want to make sure you've created great body alignment so you can increase your performance AND make sure you stay healthy.
If you're like most higher level athletes, you try to ignore the aches and pains and believe a certain amount of pain comes with the territory of pushing yourself and working hard for what you want.
But what if I told you that the pain, pulling, tweaks and twinges are actually the way your body communicates with you?
You might agree with me but then ask "So how do I know what my body's actually saying?"
Pain is the way the body protects itself.
It's that simple.
It's a message to say something's not right.
The level of pain can be a caution light, telling you to slow down and get something looked at or a red light saying it's time to call 911.
But a lot of athletes either ignore the caution light until it's too late or spend countless hours training harder and harder, hoping that shear effort will alleviate the problem.
Your body's been moving in one form or another your whole life. Starting with your eyes, then your neck, your core muscles helping you roll over, and then your muscles to crawl, then walk, then run.
And as you progressed, these movements became automated.
Think about it for a moment, you don't stop and focus in order to get the fork to your mouth at dinner time.
And you don't stop and think about how your foot hits the ground with each step you take.
Unfortunately, those amazing automated movements can be forced to changed.
For a lot of people it started with something small, like a twisted ankle. Or it could have been a car accident or a fall that caused a broken bone.
The injury forced a change in how your body moved. You had to limp to get from point A to point B or bend your back when you reached because of shoulder pain.
Your body had to compensate in order to continue to function.
And that compensation, just like all the other movements that your body learned, became automated over time.
The brain is the center of movement. It tells the body what to do, and it doesn't like pain. So it's really smart at finding ways to find ways for you to move that don't cause as much pain. The brain is also very busy, spending energy on trillions of actions each day.
That's why automations are essential. So your brain doesn't have to waste energy and time on everything. And if walking with a limp or bending your back takes away pain, then the brain is happy to keep telling the muscles to move in the way that avoids pain.
So unless you put in the effort to re-align your body after injury, those compensations become a way of life. The majority of people don't even know that they have compensations because it's just their natural way of moving.
But natural isn't neutral.
So as you work to up-level your game and increase your intensity to reach your goals you can plateau or start to feel those twinges.
Because your compensations have limited your body's ability to reach it's best potential.
And no matter how hard your work, if you keep using the same movement patterns, you'll never get past the limitations caused by the compensations. Because the compensations are now automated by your neuromuscular system.
Without proper body biomechanics, your time and your effort are wasted. In fact, you're actually increasing your risk of injury and decreasing your ability to continue to be active with the sport you love.
Wouldn't it be amazing if there was a way to find out exactly what your body needs to alleviate:
the pulling and tugging in your neck muscles
the aching in your shoulders
the sharp pain in your low back
the burning and throbbing in your knees
AND as an added bonus,
supply your body with the tools to become more efficient at moving, increase agility, decrease fatigue and recovery time, and use less energy?
Some way to analyze your body and how you move to determine exactly where you've got misalignments, tightness, and asymmetries that are not only causing pain but stopping you from improving your game.
